A bond with a maturity between 2 and 10 years. Often known as 'mediums'.

A staff to support a lame or infirm person in standing or walking, now usu. with a crosspiece at the top to fit under the armpit, or a curved rest to take the weight on the forearm. Freq. in pair of crutches. OE.

Orig., the raised part of a saddle in front and rear. Now, the forking front of a saddle-tree, which supports the pommel; also, a forked rest for the leg in a side-saddle. E17.

Capt. Cook The hunters fix their crutches in the ground, on which they rest their firelocks.
Nautical. Any of various forked contrivances in a ship or boat, as (a) a support for a boom, mast, spar, etc., when not in use, (b) a rowlock. In pl. also, crooked timbers or bands of iron etc. bolted to the stern-post and the sides of a vessel. M18.
