Garland (sh)




City (pop., 2000: 215,768), northern Texas, U.S. Bordering Dallas, it was founded when two rival railroad communities, Duck Creek and Embree, were consolidated in 1887.

Its economy is industrialized and supplemented by the farm crops grown on the nearby Blacklands Belt. Manufactures include electronic equipment, chemicals, and scientific instruments.
