Ante - Poker (gambling)

1) One or more chips put into each pot by each player before the cards are dealt. An ante is not part of a player' s next bet, as opposed to a blind, which usually is.
2) The player to the left of the dealer, usually in an ante and straddle game.

A small forced bet that everyone at the table is required to pay before each hand. In Games with an ante, these bets constitute the initial pot. When used as a verb, it means to post this bet.
