Benedict's reagent, Benedict's solution, an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium citrate, sodium carbonate, and copper sulphate, which is blue in colour but yields a red, orange, or yellow precipitate in the presence of reducing sugars such as glucose, and hence is used clinically to test urine for evidence of diabetes.
