Canada balsam a resin exuded from the N. American balsam fir, Abies balsamea, and used esp. for mounting microscope specimens. Canada bird Canad. = PEABODY. Canada Day 1 July, observed as a public holiday in Canada to observe the day in 1867 when four of the former colonial provinces were united under one government as the Dominion of Canada (formerly called Dominion Day). Canada goose a large grey-brown, black, and white goose, Branta canadensis, native to N. America and widely introduced elsewhere. Canada jay the N. American grey jay, Perisoreus canadensis. Canada thistle N. Amer. a naturalized European thistle, Cirsium arvense, with spreading roots.
