Millon's base, a yellow powder, Hg2NOH2H2O, which is a mercury-substituted derivative of ammonia. L19.
a. Millon's reagent, a clear solution of mercuric nitrate containing some nitrous acid, used in Millon's test. L19.
b. Millon's test, Millon's reaction, Millon test, Millon reaction, an analytical test for phenolic compounds (e.g. oestrogens and (esp.) proteins containing tyrosine), which give a pink or reddish precipitate with Millon's reagent. L19.
