Of or pertaining to the central Asian territory or modern republic of Mongolia; of or pertaining to the Mongols or their language. E18.

Affected with Down's syndrome (see note s.v. MONGOL). M19.
Special collocations: Mongolian eye: having an epicanthus. Mongolian fold = EPICANTHUS. Mongolian hotpot an oriental dish consisting of thinly-sliced meat, vegetables, etc., cooked in simmering stock at the table. Mongolian pheasant a pheasant, Phasianus colchicus, of a subspecies with a broken white neck-ring, native to southern Russia and Mongolia, and introduced with other races into western Europe and elsewhere; also called Kirghiz pheasant. Mongolian spot a bluish or brownish spot which is present in the sacral region of most newborn Oriental babies (and occas. in others), and usu. disappears in infancy.
