a. A gourd or similar large fruit that can be used as a container for liquid; esp. the fruit of the bottle-gourd or (N. Amer.) that of the tree Bignonia cujete. M17.
b. A tree yielding such a fruit, esp. (a) a bignonia; (b) the baobab. Also calabash tree. M17.
A vessel or other utensil (as a pipe) made from or having a resemblance to such a fruit; such a vessel full of a substance. M17.
