A person who is under the protection and patronage of another; a dependant, a hanger-on. arch. LME.

A person who employs the services of a legal adviser; a person whose cause an advocate pleads. LME.
gen. A person using the services of any professional; a customer. E17.

Computing. (In a network) a desktop computer or workstation that is capable of obtaining information and applications from a server. L20.

Comb.: client-server adjective denoting a computer system in which a central server provides data to a number of networked workstations; client state, client nation, etc.: dependent upon a larger one for trade, military aid, etc.
