Architecture. A small window or opening in a wall, esp. in the side of an altar or confessio, enabling the relics inside to be seen. LME.
b. A small niche in the wall on the south side of the altar in a church, containing the piscina and often the credence. L18.
Palaeontology. A fossil bryozoan of Palaeozoic age. Chiefly as mod. Latin genus name. M19.
