A device attached to a gate etc. incorporating a ring or socket into which the pin or hook on the post fits so as to form a hinge. ME.
A metallic pin or other device for screwing together slabs of stone. ME.
A pivot, usu. of metal, fixed on or let into the end of a beam, spindle, axle, etc., and on which a wheel turns, a bell swings, or the like. LME.
Nautical. The socket in which the pintle of a rudder turns. M16.
