More fully year of jubilee. A year of emancipation and restoration, according to Mosaic law (Leviticus 25) to be kept every 50 years, during which Hebrew slaves were to be set free, and lands and houses were to revert to their former owners. LME.

Roman Catholic Church. A period of remission from the penal consequences of sin, granted under certain conditions for a year, usu. at intervals of 25 years. LME.
