Any of various edible cruciferous plants of the genus Brassica; spec. a hardy cabbage-like vegetable, consisting of cultivars of B. oleracea and B. napus, with leaves which do not form a compact head (also called borecole). ME.
curled kale, curly kale, Scotch kale a variety of kale in which the leaves are curled and crimped like parsley. seakale: see SEA noun.
Broth in which Scotch kale or cabbage forms a principal ingredient; Scot. soup made with various kinds of vegetables. LME.
