A large spoon with a long handle and cup-shaped bowl, used chiefly for serving or pouring liquids; the contents of such a spoon, a ladleful. OE.
b. A vessel for transporting molten metal or glass in a foundry etc. LME.
c. A long-handled instrument for charging a cannon etc. with loose powder. obsolete exc. Hist. L15.
d. In (Scottish) Presbyterian churches: a small wooden box at the end of a long wooden handle used for taking up the collection and Communion tokens. E19.
