Anatomy & Zoology. A projection like a handle, esp. (a) on the malleus of the mammalian ear; (b) in some birds, on the keel of the sternum; (c) in rotifers, forming the lower part of the malleus; (d) in coelenterates, forming the tube which bears the mouth. M19.
b. The broad upper part of the sternum of mammals, with which the clavicles and first ribs articulate. M19.
