A measure of weight, chiefly for gold and silver, formerly used throughout western Europe and usu. equal to 8 ounces (226.8 grams). Now only, any of various similar foreign measures of weight. OE.
A monetary unit, orig. representing the value of a mark weight of pure silver, equal to thirteen shillings and fourpence in the (English and Scottish) currency of the day. obsolete exc. Hist. OE.
