A bitter aromatic resinous exudate from the stem of various Arabian and African trees of the genus Commiphora (family Burseraceae), esp. C. abyssinica and C. myrrha, formerly important in perfumery and as an ingredient of incense; Pharmacology a tincture made from this. OE.
