Any coniferous tree of the genus Pinus, comprising usu. large trees with evergreen needle-shaped leaves growing in clusters, native to northern temperate regions, and valued esp. as a source of timber, tar, and turpentine (also pine tree); the soft wood of these trees, often used to make furniture. OE.
lodge-pole pine, maritime pine, Norway pine, Scots pine, stone pine, umbrella pine, Weymouth pine, etc.
