The tendency of a magnet, lodestone, etc., to point with its extremities to the magnetic poles of the earth; the property of possessing magnetic poles. M17.
gen. The quality of being polar; the possession of poles or an axis in respect of certain physical properties; the property of exhibiting opposite properties in opposite directions; tendency to develop in opposite directions in space, time, serial arrangement, etc. L17.
