A. noun. A land-tenure system in which land was divided into thin strips with a (not necessarily contiguous) number being occupied and cultivated by each of the joint holders (chiefly in in runrig); a strip of land occupied and cultivated under this system. LME.
b. adverb. With reference to the holding of land: in separate strips cultivated by different occupiers. E16.
