An umbelliferous plant, Crithmum maritimum, of sea-cliffs and coasts, whose fleshy leaves are used in pickles (more fully rock samphire). Also, any of several other maritime plants similarly used, esp. (in full marsh samphire) glasswort (genus Salicornia). M16.
