Any of various hyphomycetous fungi, freq. pathogens, constituting the genus Sclerotium, which formerly included asexual states of certain ascomycetes. M19.
Mycology. The hard dark resting body of certain fungi, consisting of a mass of hyphal threads, which is capable of remaining dormant for long periods in unfavourable conditions. L19.
Zoology. A cystlike growth enclosing a portion of plasmodium of a myxomycete in its dormant stage. L19.
