Hydrodynamics & Aerodynamics. Orig., a line whose direction is that of the motion of particles in a fluid. Now, a line the tangent of which at any point has the same direction as the flow of a fluid at that point (equivalent in the case of steady flow to the direction of motion of particles). M19.
A contour of a body coincident with a streamline of flow round it; loosely a smooth outline designed to minimize drag or resistance to motion. E20.
