a. Material used in thatching, as straw, reeds, palm leaves, etc.; (a) roof-covering made of this. Formerly also, a roof-covering made of tiles or lead. Cf. earlier THACK noun 2. LME.

b. In the W. Indies, (the leaves of) any of several palms used for thatching, esp. Thrinax parviflora (more fully palmetto thatch), Coccothrinax argentea (more fully silver thatch), and Sabal jamaicensis (more fully bull thatch). L17.
