Medicine. Candidiasis, esp. in infants, characterized by white patches on the inside of the mouth and on the tongue etc. (also called aphtha, parasitic stomatitis). Also, candidiasis affecting any Other part, esp. the vagina. M17.
Veterinary Medicine. An inflammation of the frog of a horse's hoof, causing it to soften and produce a fetid discharge. Cf. FRUSH noun2. M18.
Comb.: thrush-fungus the parasitic yeastlike fungus Candida albicans, which causes thrush (sense 1).
