The rabbit tick, a tick species that occurs on all species of rabbits and on many wild birds in all parts of North America from Alaska to Mexico, and is important in the spread of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularaemia among rabbits; it does not attack humans or most domestic animals and does not spread these diseases to them, but serves to maintain the infection in reservoir hosts.
