hypercalcaemia
<biochemistry> A medical condition in which abnormally high concentrations of calcium compounds are found in the bloodstream.

Normal blood calcium is in the range of 8.5 to 10.5 mg/dl.

Elevations may be seen in hyperparathyroidism, multiple myeloma, excessive vitamin D intake, as a drug side effect (thiazide diuretics) and in association with some cancers (particularly those spread to bone).

Compare: hypocalcaemia.
