The species that causes avian trichomoniasis; the pigeon is the natural host, but the organism also occurs in turkeys, chickens, doves, hawks, falcons, and other birds; infection is most serious in young domestic pigeons, who acquire it from pigeon milk produced in the pigeon crop; other birds are infected from contaminated water or by feeding on infected birds.
