<optics> An optical system in which both reflecting and refracting curved surfaces are used to form an image.

Some reflecting objective lenses, as well as Video projection systems, are catadioptric, the latter uses a Schmidt plate to correct the spherical aberration introduced by the spherical reflecting mirror.
