A cell-mediated immune (see Cell-Mediated Immunity) reaction to foreign antigen applied on the surface or just under the skin. The reaction takes 24 to 48 hours to develop. DTH, which is the process involved in the reaction to poison ivy and poison oak, is often used in tests of immune system function.
