<chemical> 2,6-bis(1-methylethyl)phenol. An intravenous anaesthetic and a sedative for patients in the intensive care unit or under Regional anaesthesia. Induction of anaesthesia is rapid and maintenance can be achieved by either continuous infusion or intermittent bolus injection. Recovery from propofol is rapid and the patient is clear-headed with almost no hangover effect or nausea following administration.

Pharmacological action: anaesthetics, intravenous, free radical scavengers, sedatives, nonbarbiturate.
