sucralfate
<chemical> Hexadeca-omega-hydroxytetracosahydroxy-(mu(8)-(1,3,4,6-tetra-o-sulfo-beta-d-fructofuranosyl-alpha-d-glucopyranoside tetrakis(hydrogen sulfato)(8-)))hexadecaaluminum. A basic aluminum complex of sulfated sucrose. It is advocated in the therapy of peptic, duodenal, and prepyloric ulcers, gastritis, reflux oesophagitis, and other gastrointestinal irritations. It acts primarily at the ulcer site, where it has cytoprotective, pepsinostatic, antacid, and bile acid-binding properties. The drug is only slightly absorbed by the digestive mucosa, which explains the absence of systemic effects and toxicity.

Pharmacological action: anti-ulcer agents, gastrointestinal agents.
