<chemical> An alkaloid that occurs in the extract of leaves of wild tomato plants. It has been found to inhibit the growth of various fungi and bacteria. It is used as a precipitating agent for steroids.

Pharmacological action: antifungal agents, anti-infective agents, indicators and reagents.

Chemical name: beta-D-Galactopyranoside, (3beta,5alpha,22beta,25S)-spirosolan-3-yl O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-2)-O-(beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-3))-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-4)-

A morbid condition due to the presence of sulfmethemoglobin in the blood. It is marked by persistent cyanosis, but the blood count does not reveal any special abnormality in the blood. It is thought to be caused by the action of hydrogen sulfide absorbed from the intestine.
