the Yucatan Peninsula
a large peninsula (=a long, thin area of land with sea on three sides) in central America, between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, which consists of Belize, North Guatemala, and part of Mexico. The Maya people came from this area, and there are several ancient Maya buildings there.
