anticoagulant (sh) and Goaltender - Ice Hockey (gambling)

anticoagulant (sh)

Substance that prevents blood from clotting by suppressing the synthesis or function of various clotting factors (see coagulation).

Anticoagulants are given to prevent thrombosis and used in drawing and storing blood. There are two main types of anticoagulants: heparin and vitamin K antagonists (e.g., warfarin). The latter have longer-lasting effects, interfering in the liver's metabolism of vitamin K to cause production of defective clotting factors. Anticoagulant therapy carries a high risk of uncontrollable hemorrhage.

Goaltender - Ice Hockey (gambling)

The defensive player normally stationed directly in front of the goal cage, whose primary job is to prevent goals by the Other team. The goaltender wears special protective equipment and is given some special protection by the rules, while he is in the goal crease. If assessed a minor, major, or misconduct penalty, the goaltender remains in the game while another player goes to the penalty box in his stead.
